Fashion Reporter – Maddy Wilson (Blue)

As the most important month in the fashion industry arrived, Maddy had one event she couldn’t miss—New York Fashion Week.

Among the invitations was one from the Brooklyn-based brand, whose new creative director, Shanice Jordan, was about to present her debut collection.

The show took place on the rooftop of an old parking garage in Chelsea, with a breeze blowing in from the Hudson River. As Maddy waited to take her seat, someone gently touched her arm.

“Are you Maddy Wilson?”

Maddy nodded.

“I’m Shanice, the new creative director.”

For a moment, Maddy froze. Shanice smiled. “Don’t be nervous. I’m nervous too.”

She pulled a lollipop out of her bag and offered it to Maddy. “Waiting in line is boring.”

Maddy accepted, and the two fell into conversation about the evening’s collection.

After the show, Maddy made her way backstage, where people bustled between racks of clothes, steamers, and last-minute piles of pins. She was chatting with a model when Shanice appeared again.

“I’m going to say hi to my team, then we’re heading to a great club to celebrate. Want to come?”

Maddy didn’t hesitate. Before long, they were downtown, dancing and laughing late into the night.

When they finally said goodbye at the subway entrance, Maddy was already thinking about her next article. As the train pulled in, she caught her reflection in the glass and smiled. She was falling more and more in love with this city—and tonight, New York had given her both a new friend and a story to tell.
